Off to Amsterdam!

The reason I've gone and gotten a new passport (aside from the fact it's an important piece of documentation to have) is that I've off to Amsterdam in early October!

Amsterdam is the site of this year's Society for the History of Technology conference. I attended their event in Toronto in 2002 and really enjoyed it, there were several fascinating talks. My favorite session was the one on technology that never quite made it, and why ("The Short, Sharp Life of Quadraphonic Sound"). I also picked up a number of good books on technology.

The original plan was for owlfish and I to attend, but she can't make it now due to family commitments. But I've always wanted to go to Amsterdam, and the conference means I can probably write part of the trip off on my taxes (I'm looking into this now).

The conference runs for three days, and I'm going to be there for ten, so I'll have plenty of time to see the sites. I'll actually be there on my birthday, so I'm sure I'll can find some fun way to celebrate it there. And legal to boot!
