Spotting Venus

Did you know you can see Venus during the daytime? Last Saturday while I was visiting Irwin and Lisa Eric Briggs made this assertation, and some of us went to take a look. Eric's got much better eyes than I have, because after he spotted Venus (in the bright blue sky) I couldn't make it out until I took a look thru the binoculars he had brought along. Through those the planet was completely obvious, and I could see it with the naked eye once I knew exactly where to look. When I left about an hour later I tried to spot it again (sans binoculars) but couldn't find it. Guess I would have made a lousy astronomer in ancient times.
