Found Items

About three-and-a-half years back, my wallet was stolen from my locker at the gym.

Yesterday I get this little package from Canada Post containing my old Driver's licence, a credit card, and most importantly, my original birth certificate. An enclosed form letter says these items were found loose in the mail stream, possibly just dropped in a mailbox, and as a courtesy they were being returned to me.

So where have they been all this time? If the thief was going to return them, why did he wait so long? Did some third party find them and drop them in a mailbox? If so, why did the thief keep them so long? They obviously haven't been lying in garbage for all this time. Any ideas?

It may be they used you cards for fraud or such, and ditched it when they were done, or it may be the stuff was lying around and found just recently or something

That's a nasty thought. Maybe I should check to see if there's any outstanding warrants out on myself (no smiley!).
