The Engineer

The Life and Times of Donald F. Simmons

My LA trip has been pretty uneventful so far, aside from being tortured by that Jack Bauer person.

The training couse has been going OK, although it's more oriented towards the sales people than for an application person like myself, and the latest version of the software only started running fully a week and a half ago, so it's still full of bugs and sudden crashes. Most of the example problems we run don't work right in one way or another. We're all pretty much beta testers.

Sessions start at 8 AM, but at least my hotel is only 5 minutes walk away. It's a Doubletree actually (like the AN hotel) but with two tiny little function rooms. I don't know how they manage.

The surrounding area is something of a wasteland, all corporate building or malls, miles and miles from anywhere actually interesting. However, I am off shortly to a performance of "Life is a Dream" by the Spanish playright Calderon. I'll let you all know how it is.

And yes, LA has palm trees everywhere. And the days are shirtsleeve weather, the nights light jacket.
