Saw "Standing in the Shadows of Motown" last night, one of the best documentaries I've seen in a long time. It's about the Funk Brothers, a gang of musicians who played background for most of the big names to come out of Motown. It's a great look at a bunch of guys who completely deserved to become famous but who got passed by. And all the music is, of course, great too.

Also saw Adaptation on the weekend. A truly bizarre film with a tremendous performance by Nicolas Cage, as Charles (and Donald) Kaufman. Considering that most of the characters are real people, it's amazing how they gave permission to be portrayed in this movie the way that they are. They're either good sports or had no idea what they were getting into.

Minor Spoilers follow

Leaving the movie with Janet, my initial opinion was that I liked the first two-thirds a lot but thought the last third fell down somewhat in the storytelling, whereas Janet correctly pointed out that was because it was at the two-thirds mark that Charles bought Donald in for advice, so the rest of the movie was what Donald would have written. She is, of course, completely right.
