Catching Up

Lets see... Went to the Serial Diners last Friday, ended up hanging out with moon_custafer and green_trilobite at Dragon lady comics and then the Sicilian Ice Cream Parlor.

Saturday cleaned my place (in anticipation of seeing owlfish) and went to the housewarming of Justin, who not only is involved in the local space groups, but is also the head of the U of T Secular Alliance, which, while young, has already made quite the splash. I may start attending meeting.

Unofficial motto: "Militant Agnostic - I don't know and you don't know either!"

Sunday was Word on the Street. I put in two hours at the Friends of the Merril Collection table. This year we asked members to donate old SF and Fantasy so we could sell bags of books at $5 a pop. We ended up getting six boxes full and sold a heck of a lot of them, easily out best year at WotS ever. A photographer from 24 took my picture and my name, but when I checked the magazine Monday they went with a picture of some old lady instead.

I didn't pick up a lot at WotS this year, didn't see much that interested me. I did see Olivia Chow and Jack Layton hanging out at the Spacing.ca booth. I miss the old Queen Street location. I understand that it attracts such a big crowd now that they want more space for emergency vehicles, but I miss being able to duck into any of the stores there to get something to eat, and sit down for a little while. And check out Pages, the Snail, Jamie Fraser's, etc.

Sunday evening met up with owlfish (Yay!) at Urban Thai, she almost right off her plane. Nice food and better company, it was great to see her and catch up. Afterwords we went back to my place as she's never seen Nausicaa of the Valley of the Wind. It's such a great movie.

I must have overdid something because Monday I was feeling pretty blah. The bad news was that I needed to write a report to send to The Germans. The big project I've been on at work for months now is for The Germans, and for months we've been trying to convince them that they are hung up on details that don't mean a thing to the overall project, this report being our new major offensive on that front. I got almost nothing done Monday, so went home, got plenty of sleep and got a lot done yesterday and today. A little more tomorrow and it'll be done. And off to The Germans.

Yesterday I was following a discussion re the use of "the" to make a group of people sound ominous and threatening. However it was pointed out that it can also make them sound like a band:

"The Homosexual Activists? I'm pretty sure they were a band formed by some kids who went to my high-school. They used to do a great cover of 99 Luftballons."

Actually I suppose The Germans would also do a good cover of 99 Luftballons.
