New Who!

Thanks to gross violation of international copyright laws, I saw the first episode of the new Doctor Who this weekend!

Apparently someone at the BBC posted the first episode to the Internet, which has the Beeb (and CBC) in a tizzy. While I was over at (undisclosed location) I found that (undisclosed person) had read about this, oddly enough, on the BBC website, and promptly downloaded it.

Overall, I'd give the episode a thumbs-up, a good new beginning. As the episodes are self-contained 45 minute stories, the pace is much faster than we old Who fans are used to, but considering how padded a lot of those old stories were that's not necessarily a bad thing. The production values aren't, say, Battlestar Galactica standards but they are certainly higher than we're used to. The TARDIS control room is larger than the classic ones, but not like the giant library they used in the FOX movie (but thank God they kept the Time Rotor).

Christopher Eccleston is obviously having a lot of fun (checks himself out in a mirror, "Could have been worse"), and the new companion, Rose, isn't bad herself.

Really looking forward to the series official premiere.
