From good Fantasy to bad SF...

Saturday, I hosting the Space-Time Continuum, my SF book club, annual Christmas bad SF movie night. Rebecca was going to bring the Doc Savage movie (which she says is actually not that bad), but she came down with the flu that seems to be going around and couldn't make it. So perusing my collection, we came across Q-The Winged Serpent, a 1982 monster movie with Michael Moriarty and David Carradine, featuring an extremely bad stop-motion lizard-creature with wings that's flying around New York eating people off of rooftops.

Those of you who are only familiar with MM thru Law and Order don't realize that that show is actually a departure from his usual style. MM almost always plays freaks, and in this movie he's a piano-playing, getaway-car-driving, non-stop talker with only one foot lodged in the real world. David Carradine seems to be either drunk or just sobering up in most of his scenes (big surprise there). Oh, and Richard Roundtree's there too, no doubt wondering what happened to his career. Although he has a great scene with a detective disguised as a mime, which is actually such a weird idea for a cop-buddy picture that one wonders why it hasn't been done yet.

Anyway, the movie makes no sense, which made it perfect to make fun off. We ordered in Swiss Chalet, and a good time was had by all.
