Indy Films

It was an indy film weekend for me. Saturday I saw Harry Knuckles and the Pearl Necklace, the latest piece of insanity from Canadian Odessa Films.

For those who have never heard of Harry, he's a freelance secret agent, code-named Spanish Fly. He's appeared before in short films made by Odessa, who also made the brilliant Jesus Christ, Vampire Hunter (starring the same actor!). Pearl Necklace has got it all: Kung-fu, Bigfoot, evil siblings, hovercrafts, Scientists, Mexican wrestling, Bondage Nuns, and more! It has less of a plot than excuses for more weirdness to happen, but was a lot of fun.

Sunday was my SF book club's Christmas Movie night, and this year it was John Carpenter's student film Dark Star, the original slobs in space movie. The movie with not-so-smart smart bombs, and an alien consisting of a beach ball with feet. And don't forget Sgt. Pinback. If you've never seen it see it with some friends, you'll be glad you did.
