Bridge in the Clouds

Since I am theengineer, it's time to start celebrating some of the wonders of my profession. So all hail the Millau Bridge, opened today in France, the highest road bridge in the world, literally the Bridge in the Clouds (check new icon).

Built over the River Tarn Valley, the bridge is meant to clear up a bottleneck on a Paris to the Med highway, and route traffic out of the little towns in the area. The highest pylon is 343m, taller than the Eiffel Tower (which was built by the same company).

Wow. I like that the architect deliberately made it graceful as well as huge.
