I was over to Aaron's last night giving him sage advice (he's thinking of putting together an anime/gaming con for the late fall here in Toronto), for which he fed me a stir-fry, and we watched the first episodes of Stargate Atlantis.
While I love the originalStargate TV show, my impressions of the spin-off were sorely lacking. Stargate worked from the get-go because all the major characters were well-defined and had such great interaction, but this new bunch are bland and blander, and the direction was uninspired at best. There is a really hot babe in it though. I'll probably give it a couple of more episodes to try and find its way before I make up my mind.

LOL, which of the two major female characters do you consider a babe? Maybe they're too old for me. :) Or did Aaron skip ahead and show you episode 8, where redhead Erin Chambers (and Colm Meaney!) show up?
In any case, the show gets better by the second half of the first season, when they focus more on how the other worlds in the Pegasus galaxy are responding to the Wraith threat (rather than the lame Wraiths themselves), and they stop wasting so much time on Tayla's boring people.
Why isn't the doctor in the opening credits? They do the same thing in SG-1! Dr. Frasier in like 5/6ths of all the episodes and she never makes it into the credits.
Tayla's a babe.
Was your sage advice, "Doooooon't do it!! DOoooooooooonnnNNnn'T!! For Godz sake man RUN ! While ye still can!!" ??
;)
Seriously, I think it's more of a commentary on the quality of Stargate: Atlantis. The character is so there just to be a babe it's hard to appreciate her any other way.
That's my story and I'm sticking to it.
