Party Hearty!

Had a little "to-do" on Saturday with a Guy Fawkes theme, it being one day past the fateful Nov. 5 when Guy got caught in the basement of Parliament with 36 barrels of gunpowder. Back in Newfoundland, we'd remember the occasion with a bonfire. That being a little difficult to arrange in my backyard, I opted for the small scale route. From an art/office supply shop I got one of those little wooden losable figures for the Guy, a paper spindle as the post to tie him to, and popsicle sticks for break up for the pyre around him. I set it all up in a metal bowl, and with some newspaper as kindling set him alight (turning off the lights and the smoke detector). He went up quite nicely, to general cheers. Take that, Catholics!

Since next year is the 400th anniversary of the Gunpowder Plot, I'm going to have to plan ahead for something bigger.

Rest of the party went well too. I kicked the last stragglers out at about 3:30 AM. At this point I think they were quite ready to go, but just couldn't summon up the energy to get going. The one advantage to being the host is that I don't have far to go to get to bed.

The other advantage is that a party forces you to clean your place up, and I have to admit it was seriously overdue for a cleaning. I spent literally a week getting it shipshape, and it looks better than it has in months. Cleaning up afterwards just consisted of tipping the empties into the Blue Box, and the rest into a trash bag. No breakages or problem spillages to be had.
