What else...

...have I been up to lately?

On Friday went to the Royal to see Dynasty in 3D. No, not the 80's Joan Collins soap, but a Kung Fu movie. Overall, it was an average Kung Fu Friday event. Aside from all the spears and spears being pointed in your face, it was an ordinary kill-the-evil-but-invincible-eunuch flick. And unfortunately the sound about out of sync with the film for the last 40 minutes or so.

Saturday was at a housewarming for Colin Geddes, who runs Kung Fu Fridays. He was showing in his backyard, in glorious 16mm (from Ebay), Gorgo, Britain's answer to Godzilla, and Destroy all Monsters,, a 70s Godzilla flick featuring the Big Guy, Mothra, Rodan, and all the rest of the Toho Studios cast of creatures. Despite threatening skies most of the day, the rain held off. Not that we didn't have our share of technical problems with the projector anyway. Made me feel like I was at the Paramount.

Sunday I had brunch with Kyle at the Fuse Room, a wonderful restaurant on College just east of Bathurst I've been meaning to try out for brunch for a while now. I was not disappointed. Kyle and her husband Lloyd have been house-sitting in the neighbourhood for a few weeks, while Lloyd works on some particularly dusty bits of their never-ending renovations of the house they bought last year. Afterwards we strolled up St. George and along Bloor, checking out some sidewalk book vendors and a few print shops.

Also on Sunday, I finally saw Troy at the Bloor. It was enjoyable enough as long as you could stop yourself from thinking "Wait a minute, he survived the Trojan War!" whenever they killed someone they weren't supposed to. And I agree with my brother, Eric Bana and Peter O'Toole were the only actors trying to bring any depth to their characters. With O'Toole you expect it. Bana was a surprise after his flat portrayal in Hulk (I've probably made some enemies with that statement). It's nice to know he can act.

We went by the theater and saw the showtimes, but it was on Saturday. I would have totally been there on Friday night had I known, 3-D spears and everything!
