Movies with Catherine...

Catherine Crockett and I got together last night to see a movie, although of course by the time we managed to get to the Varsity everything we were interested in seeing was sold out. (Half the time we go out for a movie either this happens or Eye gets the starting time wrong.)

So instead we got some ice cream, stopped off at Suspect, and rented The Cooler with William H. Macy as a guy with such bad luck a casino employs him to stand next to people on a hot streak and ruin it. It was a good movie, made more fun by the fact it was shot in a hotel/casino that Catherine had stayed at earlier in the year while at a fanzine convention. Her take was that in the movie the casino was much better lit, was filled with much better dressed people, and there was no way viewers could pick up on the truly strange smell all casinos have.

Catherine had spent the day digging up a rosebush in her backyard she's managed to give away to a friend. In her words, if it wasn't for all the poetic history roses have, no one would bother with them. You have something that looks great for five days in June, and a diseased thornbush all the rest of the year.

LOL. At least the rose trade isn't supporting any African civil wars. Stupid artifically expensive shiny rocks.
