1000 km!!

As of today I've cycled 1000 km so far this year. Yay me!

I had dim sum with my brother and a few friends on Baldwin St., and then set out up the Don River trail, over to Victoria Park, south to the Beaches boardwalk, out the Leslie St. Spit, and finally home. It was too nice a day to not get in all the riding I could, we're not going to get very many more.

It's also been a very literary weekend. Friday my friend Myna was guest-hosting the I.V. Lounge reading series, and she found all the cards stacked against her. First, one of the readers cancelled that afternoon, and she managed to find a replacement on very short notice. Then the venue told her that we all had to be out by 10 PM to make way for a private dance party, and they had to set-up the sound while Myna was setting up for the reading. Then the bartender didn't show up. After the first reading Myna got behind the bar herself to sell people beer, and she collected the cash to pass on later (the bartender finally arriving after another half-hour). That's the sort of executive decision-making I really admire, so big kudos to her.

Saturday was the monthly meeting of the SF book club. My brother was doing The Privilege of the Sword by Ellen Kushner, which he freely admitted to choosing because he has a weakness for cross-dressing female swords-persons. And it was a good discussion. Really!

After that I made my way over to the Trinity College Book Sale. As my shelves are nearly full again I've vowed only to buy books I'm actually going to read, even if they are cheap, so I limited myself to a Jasper Fforde, a Brother Cadfeal, and a history of the Panama Canal I've been meaning to get for a long time. Incidentally, Jasper Fforde is at the International Festival of Authors this Tuesday, and I've got my ticket.

I like cross-dressing male swordspersons, if only because they're rarer (Yay Chevalier D'Eon!)
