Update...

Jeez, it's been a while...

Last weekend went up to Huntsville to visit Karen. I bought up my Puzz-3D of the Citadel of Minis Tirith for her to try and put together. I have to admit, she got it together a lot faster than I managed to, in an evening and day, although it was concentrated effort on her part. I hung out, ate BBQ two nights running (pork chops and steak), read another Brother Cadefal from her collection, and watched the (not insignificant) amount of snow on the ground shrink by the hour in the sunlight.

Caught Oldboy with benet last night. This is not a feel-good movie. It's more a soul-crushing movie. But it's an amazing piece of cinema and although my expectations were high, I was not disappointed.

For those who haven't heard about it, it's a South Korean film. It opens with this drunken salary-man type being picked up by a friend at a police station. While the friend is talking to his family, the guy is grabbed off the street, and wakes up imprisoned in a small apartment, where he is kept for the next FIFTEEN YEARS, with no idea who is doing this or way. Then he's suddenly released, and his captor taunts him via cell phone to find out what it was all about. I missed it during last year's film festival, and an so glad it's gotten a big screen release. Check it out if you can.

This was my week of meetings. There was a Canadian Space Society meeting Tuesday on the Canadian ozone measuring satellite SciSat. Odd as it sounds for me to say, it was a little too technical for my tastes. The science was good, but how the results were analyzed and interpreted went on in unnecessary detail. Still, it's better to have an enthusiastic speaker than now.

Wednesday was the Friends of the Merril Collection Meeting. I'm spearheading a SF Swap Meet we're going to hold on Oct. 29 at the Lillian H. Smith library, so start going over your collections for items you don't really want anymore, but can't just throw out. Details to follow.

I'm sorry, but the new Pope looks like a Sith Lord (Pope Palpatine the First!).

"But first, let's let Pope Ratzinger waste a minute of our time..."

Yes, Ratzinger is not a friendly-looking guy. I think he most reminds me of Frankenstein('s monster) from Conan O'Brien's show.

Crap, I wish I'd known. I could have gone. (I spent three work terms at Radarsat, and used to know far too much about remote sensing for someone who wasn't actually studying/working in the field. I still have my textbook from circa 1988 and the two award-nominated papers I wrote as work-term reports while I was there.)

Hee. There's an entire thread over at TrekBBS devoted to this topic, complete with Photoshopped images.
